For Amanda Princi, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is nothing new.

Princi, who is Head of Data & AI Enablement at Transurban, says the Australian road and toll operator has been using AI-type technologies for many years.

Machine learning assists with licence plate recognition to identify motor vehicles as they pass through toll gantries on the 22 roads operated by the organisation in Australia and North America.

Transurban is not building its own large language model. Rather, the organisation is trialling the Copilot conversational chat interface where there is potential for productivity gains in content generation as well as helping development teams produce software code.

It has also moved its data catalogue to the Informatica management platform, which now has a generative AI engine, CLAIRE GPT.
