Boards Still Viewing Cyber as ‘Somebody Else’s Problem’: Revio Cyber Security’s John Baird

Some company board directors tend to think cyber is ‘somebody else’s problem’ but ignoring it is no longer an acceptable approach, says Revio Cyber Security CEO, John Baird.

The former Chief Technology Officer at Deutsche Bank in Australia and Chair of the NSW Government’s Cyber Security Advisory Council, says board execs continue to resist taking responsibility for their organisation’s cyber defences.

Baird acknowledges that dealing with cyber challenges can be difficult, but educating board members is a critical first step.

Board members are selected for their expertise, which makes admitting a lack of cyber knowledge difficult, he tells ADAPT.

“We have to get past that, and they have to get educated. It’s been a problem for a while, but it’s still continuing.”
