Executive Summary
Leading up to its Security Edge event in April 2024, ADAPT surveyed 137 CISOs from some of Australia’s largest and most innovative organisations to gain insights into their key initiatives, challenges and investments in the 12 months ahead.
The delegation represented 26% of Australia’s GDP and 9% of the country’s workforce. In addition, ADAPT collected insights from government agencies and technology providers who attended Security Edge to enrich our findings.
Key themes from the survey, onsite discussions and roundtables included:
- Australian CISOs are feeling the pinch of organisational budget constraints, with 66% not having adequate security tools and resources to deliver the level of security capability needed.
- As their CIO peers increasingly focus on AI, CISOs are becoming strategic advisors, developing the diligence and protections needed to navigate the potential risks introduced by AI.
- Data security, phishing, ransom ware and third party risks rank as top threats for CISOs into 2025 and beyond.
- The need to map organisational readiness and the ability to deliver against the Australian Cyber Security Strategy for 2030.
- Embracing a partner mindset aligned with broader organisational goals, beyond one-time solutions.
