AI implementations are falling over because organisations are not getting the fundamentals right, says experienced tech exec, Kate Romanova.

Romanova, who has in the past year worked on AI roadmaps and delivery in interim CIO and CTO roles, says although there is a great appetite for AI, core activities need to be completed before organisations go down this road. These include deciding which cloud models work best as well as the architectures that will support projects.

A self-confessed AI geek, Romanova says she uses non-technical language to bring company boards on the AI journey, to help leadership teams realise that even though identifying, cleaning and consolidating data “might not be sexy”, it provides massive benefits to these initiatives.

“You’ve got to know where it [data] comes from and it’s got to be contextual,” says Romanova.
