NOVA Entertainment’s Director, Digital Product, Technology and Data, Tim Armstrong, joined the radio network in mid-2020 when the pandemic was in full swing, and staff had shifted from working in the office to their homes.

It was a time when the network’s executives started to embrace the power of digitisation and how it could be used to ‘flip the switch’ on its traditional radio business.

Some long-standing employees—referred to as ‘radio diehards’—preferred traditional post-pandemic approaches to radio broadcasting. But consumer demand for content at any place and time, forced the network to accelerate its digital services.

“The opportunity there became a lot clearer off the back of what was seen through that COVID period and how quickly we pivoted and started to use technology,” says Armstrong.

“They [NOVA executives] saw the potential and it was a matter of building the right team to mobilise and grow that.”
