Ann Austin has spent the past two decades building her expertise in environmental, social and governance (ESG) at Australian property giant, Lendlease.

Now, as an executive director at the newly created sustainability consultancy, ESG Strategy, Austin and her co-founders, Lee Stewart and Mark Lyster, are on a mission to help “medium sized or less organised” businesses strengthen their ESG strategies.

Their timing couldn’t be better.

Last September, the federal government passed legislation requiring large and medium-sized companies in Australia to disclose climate-related risks and opportunities in their annual reports.

Austin tells ADAPT that the corporate world is moving into a new phase of ESG maturity. While early adopters have led the way, new expectations, driven in part by regulatory changes, are placing pressure on entire supply chains to develop clear, affordable ESG plans.
