A Day in the Life of a Tech Exec: Howard Gu and Monica Ly, Co-Founders at EdgeRed

Dec 2, 2024 | 3 mins

Organisations are deploying AI tools with a ‘hammer and nail’ mindset, finding applications for these technologies instead of using them to solve existing business problems, says data analytics specialist, Howard Gu.

Many of EdgeRed’s clients have board-driven strategies to adopt AI, which are blanket statements that don’t prioritise people’s time, says Gu, who is Co-Founder at data and AI consultancy, EdgeRed.

“Now, they are not solving the company’s problems; they’ve taken a new piece of tech and [are] trying to figure out where to slot it just for the sake of slotting it in,” he says.

Monica Ly, EdgeRed’s Co-Founder, adds that this approach is driven by FOMO [fear of missing out].

“It’s very important for them to go back to the first principal and understand what business problem they are trying to solve to set them up for success,” she says.
