Unclear cloud forecasting and allocation remain major challenges for CIOs and infrastructure executives, with many admitting they lack maturity in modelling costs based on reliable data.

ADAPT research shows that 75% of Australian executives practice some form of FinOps, largely driven by escalating cloud costs. Yet only 20% believe they are effective at tracking the value captured from these tech investments.

Since 2022, AWS’ Head of Strategic Transformation for ANZ Public Sector and FinOps lead for APJ Public Sector, Sidd Jolapara, has been helping organisations maximise their cloud spend. Prior to AWS, he spent 9 years in senior financial management roles at Woolworths.

Jolapara views FinOps – the practice of aligning tech, finance and business teams to optimise cloud spend – as basic IT financial management where for every dollar that is invested, a larger ROI is achieved.
