David’s core areas of focus include digital strategy consulting, transformation program leadership, and the development and delivery of Human-Centered Design capabilities in complex environments. He has experience across telecommunications, tourism, mining, trade, and healthcare, with a deep specialisation in the public sector.
David Heacock is a veteran digital strategist and innovation leader with a diverse track record of significant transformation programs in complex domains. David is currently working with the Department of Health to design the future of electronic requesting for pathology, diagnostic imaging, presections and specialist referrals. David has also led the build of a new digital innovation capability as a Lead Partner with DXC Technology, and has prior experience leading teams of designers across the Asia Pacific region as a Partner and Associate Director with the Boston Consulting Group, developing his own businesses across Australia and SE Asia, and mentoring on the ANU Techlauncher program. His previous experiences are mainly characterised by tackling large complex topics across expansive ecosystems.
David is passionate about helping clients find value from the application of digital technologies in new or legacy business environments, particularly leveraging complex ecosystems.
In 2019, David was part of the leadership team at BCG that delivered a digital transformation program at Saudi Telecom Company. The program built a new customer journey capability and academy that fundamentally transformed the way STC delivered new digital products and business change, delivering up to a 10x ROI on their fees within six months across four teams totaling over 120 staff. In 2015, he led the experience design and digital architecture for the Australian Passport Redevelopment Program, delivering significant operational savings such as a 90% reduction in support calls, and ongoing citizen savings amounting to over $50m per year. Currently, David is designing a digital ecosystem to support health data interoperability that will fundamentally transform the healthcare experience for every Australian, driving billions of dollars of savings for the government and a significant uplift in the quality of care.
