Introduction
Australia’s leading research and advisory organisation, ADAPT, prides itself on delivering insightful content when it matters. Over its thirteen-year history, ADAPT has played a pivotal role in convening thousands of C-level executives across its Edge events, roundtables and advisory conversations. During this time, ADAPT has consistently been a leader in capturing and analysing key trends in technology and business across Australia.
Cloud is one area ADAPT began to track and monitor from its early nascent stage to the widespread deployments that we see today.
The ADAPT Cloud Migration study is in its fifth year. This report includes input from 1800 Australian Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and infrastructure leaders, gathered between 2020 and 2023, representing organisations with a combined responsibility for over one-third of Australia’s gross domestic product (GDP).
While previous years have seen year over year growth in the public cloud market, as we exited the year, 2023 marked something of a watershed moment, with public cloud workloads, as a percentage of all IT workloads, remaining flat compared to 2022 levels. As depicted below, these workloads sit at 38%.
