David Gee

David is a former CIO and CISO with over 20 years of global leadership experience across financial services, insurance, and technology risk. His roles at Macquarie Group, HSBC, MetLife Japan, and in advisory positions within fintech and cybersecurity ecosystems have shaped his deep expertise in cyber resilience, digital transformation, IT risk management and value realisation.

Upon joining Macquarie in 2021, David assumed the responsibility of providing global technology, cyber, and data risk management for the Group.

Before his tenure at Macquarie, he held the position of Chief Information Security Officer at HSBC, overseeing 19 countries in the Asia Pacific region, which accounted for 80% of HSBC’s global profits. During his time at HSBC, he played a pivotal role in fostering a cybersecurity culture globally, implementing a ‘human firewall’ strategy through extensive cyber awareness training for staff, developers, and board members.

A seasoned ‘change agent,’ he brings experience as a CIO across the Asia Pacific, Japan, Australia/NZ, and the USA. In his last CIO assignment as SVP and CIO at Metlife Japan, he managed 1,200 IT resources catering to 8 million customers.

His achievements include winning the CIO of the Year 2014 award at CUA (Credit Union of Australia), where he successfully led a significant transformation, delivering new Core Banking, Online, and Mobile Banking systems, along with a complete infrastructure revamp. With a strong fintech background, he serves as a Board Advisor and Venture Capital Partner and has held Partner-level IT consultant roles with KPMG, EY, and ICG.

Currently, he holds the position of Non-Executive Director for Global Enterprises (UOW), Hash Financial Group, and Board Risk Advisor to Hesta (Industry Super Fund). He also serves on the Advisory Board for Sekuro, Emertel, and JS Careers. His past roles include chairing the Financial Services (FS-ISAC) Strategy Committee, and in 2023, he received the Global Leaders Award for his significant contributions to the industry.
